How to Use Peppermint Oil for Mice?
Peppermint oil is commonly used to deter mice thanks to its intense menthol scent, which disrupts their sensitive sense of smell. It’s often used in homes, garages, and storage areas.
How to Make a Peppermint Oil Mouse Deterrent Spray
Add 10–15 drops of peppermint essential oil to a spray bottle filled with water and a splash of white vinegar or witch hazel. Shake well and spray along baseboards, entry points, and known problem areas.
How to Use Cotton Balls with Peppermint Oil
Saturate cotton balls with several drops of peppermint oil and place them in cupboards, under sinks, or near cracks and holes. Refresh every few days to maintain effectiveness.
What Our Customers Think
Frequently Asked Questions About Peppermint Oil for Mice
Where Should I Place Peppermint Oil to Be Most Effective Against Mice?
For best results, place peppermint oil-soaked cotton balls in areas where mice activity has been observed, such as entry points, along baseboards, behind appliances, and in cabinets. Reposition as needed to target new locations.
How Often Do I Need to Refresh Peppermint Oil for Mice?
The scent of peppermint oil tends to fade within a few days. Refresh your application every 2–3 days or as soon as you notice the aroma has weakened.
Does Peppermint Oil Kill Mice or Just Repel Them?
Peppermint oil does not harm mice—it simply creates an environment that mice tend to avoid due to its strong scent. It offers a natural option for discouraging unwanted visitors without using harsh methods.
Is Peppermint Oil a Good Alternative to Mouse Traps?
Peppermint oil is often used as a gentle and scent-based strategy for discouraging mice. While it may not replace traditional traps entirely, it can be a helpful part of a multi-step approach to keeping your space mouse-free.
Is Peppermint Oil Safe for Pets When Used to Deter Mice?
When used with care, diluted peppermint oil can be safe around pets. Avoid applying it directly on animals or in enclosed spaces with them, and keep cotton balls or sprays out of reach of curious paws or noses. Always monitor your pet’s reaction and consult your vet if unsure.
Great!
Would love to leave a rating, if I had the product. Took 2 weeks for them to send the wrong product, another 2 to create a shipping label for the right one, that still hasnt left their facility. Also had upgraded shipping, replacement being sent by snail mail. Hoping to recieve it by 2025, was ordered mid June 2024.
