Amyris Oil Fun Facts

Amyris Essential Oil has a sweet, woody, and balsamic aroma, reminiscent of sandalwood. It is often referred to as "Poor Man's Sandalwood" due to its similar scent profile.

Amyris Essential Oil may have insect-repellent properties, particularly against certain types of ticks.

The Amyris balsamifera tree is often referred to as “Balsam Torchwood” due to its use as a firewood.

What is Amyris Oil?

Amyris Essential Oil is derived from the wood of the Amyris balsamifera tree, an evergreen bush native to Haiti but now cultivated in various tropical regions worldwide. While it is often referred to as "Amyris," it is also known as West Indian Sandalwood due to its similar scent profile to Sandalwood Oil. The oil is largely produced in countries like India.

Amyris wood was historically valued for its high oil content, making it an excellent firewood choice. Beyond its use as a fuel source, the wood's pleasant aroma and potential therapeutic properties were recognized, leading to its cultivation and essential oil production.

Amyris Essential Oil is known for its high content of valerianol, a compound associated with muscle relaxant properties. This attribute made the oil valuable for its potential to promote relaxation and easing muscle tension. This powerful oil also exhibits strong antibacterial activity against certain types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus strains.

In terms of modern applications, Amyris Essential Oil boasts a rich, warm, and woody aroma with subtle hints of sweetness and a balsamic undertone, which makes it a popular addition to custom fragrances and perfumes. In addition, its soothing and calming scent makes it a popular choice in aromatherapy practices.

What Our Customers Think

"Needed for skin care products. Good quality" - Robert Rook 04/15/23
"I find that usually oils that help with congestion are very minty and strong - like peppermint, spearmint, and so on. Amyris oil however, is really good for congestion but has a sweet scent, almost like vanilla, which is heaps better than the minty alternatives." - Blake 04/05/22
"The relaxing effect of this oil is so quick and strong, I immediately get a sense of calm as soon as the diffuser starts going." - Luke 09/25/21

Strong aphrodisiac

I'm in a mismatched libido marriage. Sometimes it's hard, but we both make an effort and try to find products that help. Amyris oil is amongst the most effective aphrodisiacs we have tried so far, and it is completely natural which is a very big bonus.
