Besides repelling insects, citronella essential oil can work wonders on your skin. The planet that citronella oil is created from is found in the same family as lemongrass, which is why they have similar citrusy scents and benefits.


When used on the skin, citronella can improve skin hydration, reduce signs of aging, decrease swelling and pain, and act as an anti-fungal. It can also be helpful in eliminating body lice and can improve circulation when used as part of a blend of massage oils.


To prepare citronella oil for use on your skin, mix several drops into your favorite carrier oil. You can then apply it and massage it into any problem areas on your body; be sure to avoid sensitive skin and the areas around your eyes. You may also combine a few drops of citronella oil with a moisturizer for a more hydrating mixture.

Controls sebum production

It seemed counterintuitive to use a moisturizing product to help me manage my very oily skin. I decided to give it a go anyways because honestly, I've tried everything, so what's one more? Well, I'm glad I tried it because my skin is much better than before, there's less sebum production and shine.

Enhances moisturizer action

I mix this with my moisturizer and it helps it get absorbed much quicker, and also works better making my skin moisturized for longer periods of time.

Topical repellent

Really good oil to take on hikes, I use it on my skin mixed with an almond carrier oil and it keeps bugs away from me. Plus, it really moisturizes my skin which kinda helps prevent sunburns.
